This is a very interesting German 98k bayonet which was captured by an American soldier and cut down for use as a fighting knife. The knife is contained within a USN Mark 2 Scabbard. The ricasso still bears a very faint maker code clc for manufacture by Richard Abraham Herder of Solingen, the legendary "City of Blades" in the mountains of Eastern Germany. The other side is stamped 64. The pommel was also cut down so it
